Preens Introduces Prestige Preservation Programme

Preens Drycleaners has secured exclusive rights to preserve many women’s most treasured and sentimental item of clothing – their wedding dress.

Preens have the NZ franchise of the Prestige Preservation service that originated from the United States. Business manager Rick Wellington said he was delighted to be able to deliver the innovative service that Preens has had an interest in for some time.

The preservation technique involves hand cleaning and pressing the dress before arranging it in a display box lined with acid free tissue paper. A storage window allows the dress to be admired without having to open the display box. The oxygen is removed from the box and replaced by an inert gas that creates an insect and dust free environment.

This procedure also prevents oxidization or yellowing of the fabric, which could be a problem, especially if a member of the following generation plans to wear the dress. The box is then sealed in clear shrink wrap plastic.

“We often got enquires about how to store wedding dresses after the big day and now we have a complete solution to put the brides’ mind at ease,” Karen Hansen, manager of PPP said.

There is also a Memory box that uses the same preservation technique available for items such as christening gowns or historic military/sports uniforms and also flags.
